How do I play?
Tap one of your pieces to see its legal moves highlighted, then tap a highlighted square to move there. Captured enemy pieces join your hand — tap a piece in your hand, then tap an empty square, to drop it back onto the board as your own.
What is "promotion"?
Most pieces can flip to a stronger form when they move into, within, or out of the far three ranks. The app will ask when promotion is optional, and promote automatically when it's required (e.g. a pawn reaching the last rank).
Why can't I drop my pawn there?
Shogi has two pawn-drop rules: you can't drop a second unpromoted pawn on a file that already has one of your own (nifu), and you can't drop a pawn that delivers checkmate on the spot (uchifuzume). Both are enforced automatically.
What are the difficulty levels?
Easy, Normal, and Hard control how deep the AI opponent searches and how often it plays a deliberately weaker move.
