How does Big Things AU work?

Pick a theme (Big Things AU or Convict Trail), grant location permission, and start driving anywhere in Australia. As you approach a Big Thing or convict-era heritage site, an audio story plays automatically through your phone speaker or car Bluetooth. No tapping, no route planning — your only job is to drive.

Why does the App ask for "Always" location?

For stories to play automatically while you drive, the App needs to know your location even when in the background. iPhone's background geofencing requires the "Always" location permission. Your location is never sent off your device — it's only used to detect proximity to nearby story points.

I have "While Using App" set, not "Always". What changes?

With "While Using App", stories will only play when the App is in the foreground. You'll need to keep your iPhone unlocked with the App open. We recommend "Always" so stories play hands-free while you drive.

Does it work without internet?

Yes. All story content and audio generation are on-device — Big Things AU works completely offline. No signal, no problem.

How many stories does the free tier include?

5 stories per day across all themes. After that, the App pauses auto-play until tomorrow, or you can upgrade to Pro for unlimited stories.

What's in the Pro subscription?

Where do the stories come from?

Stories are AI-generated from publicly available sources — Wikipedia (CC BY-SA), UNESCO World Heritage listings, and state heritage registers — and reviewed by the developer before inclusion. Each story's sources are listed on its detail screen.

I found a factual error in a story. What should I do?

Email us at qngo9871@gmail.com. Tell us which story and what the correction should be. We'll review and update in the next release.

A story about an Indigenous or convict-era site feels off — can you change it?

Yes. We've done our best to tell history truthfully and respectfully, but we welcome feedback. Email us with the specific story and your concern; we take cultural sensitivity seriously and will revise.

How do I cancel my subscription?

Big Things AU subscriptions are managed through Apple. To cancel, go to iPhone Settings > Apple ID > Subscriptions > Big Things AU > Cancel Subscription. You will retain access until the end of your current billing period.

Will there be more themes?

Yes — Goldfields, Haunted Australia, and other themes are planned for future versions. Updates are free for current subscribers.

Is there an Android version?

Not at this time. Big Things AU is iOS-only.

How do I delete my data?

All data is stored on your device. To delete, either go to the App's Settings and choose "Reset", or remove the App from your device.
