Frequently Asked Questions

How does Cue know when I'm anxious?

Cue reads heart rate, heart rate variability, and respiratory rate from your Apple Watch through HealthKit. Over the first week of use it builds a personal baseline of your resting physiology. After calibration, Cue watches for a sustained departure from that baseline — typically a heart rate elevation combined with HRV trough — while you're stationary and not actively exercising. When that pattern holds for about a minute, Cue plays a brief grounding cue.

Why does Cue need a week of calibration?

Resting physiology varies widely from person to person. A heart rate of 80 bpm is high for one person and normal for another. Cue won't trigger anything in the first seven days while it learns your individual normal. The 7-day free trial is also the calibration window.

Why does it need AirPods?

Cue's grounding cues are short audio prompts (15-45 seconds) recorded by an anxiety practitioner. AirPods or other Bluetooth headphones let Cue deliver them privately and at a comfortable volume. If no headphones are connected when a cue would fire, Cue falls back to a silent haptic on your Watch and a glanceable card — the audio is never played out loud.

Why doesn't Cue trigger when I'm exercising?

Exercise raises heart rate too, but it's not anxiety. Cue checks motion data and active-workout state from your Watch. If you're walking briskly, running, or in a recorded workout, no cue fires.

How often will Cue interrupt me?

At most one cue every thirty minutes, and at most five cues per day. Cue is designed to be quiet — most days it will fire once or not at all.

Are the cues generated by AI?

No. The grounding cues are written and recorded by a working anxiety practitioner. Each cue draws on established techniques (sensory anchoring, breath pacing, somatic noting, body presence). They are bundled with the App and play locally — your data is not sent to any server.

Can I turn it off temporarily?

Yes. Cue includes a "Quiet Hours" setting to suppress detection during specific times of day, and a "Pause" toggle on the Watch face for situations where you don't want any cues for the next few hours.

How do I cancel my subscription?

Cue subscriptions are managed through Apple. To cancel, go to iPhone Settings > Apple ID > Subscriptions > Cue > Cancel Subscription. You will retain access until the end of your current billing period.

How do I delete my data?

All Cue data is stored on your device. Delete the App to remove all of it, or use the in-app Settings > Reset Calibration to clear baseline and trigger history while keeping the App installed.

Cue isn't detecting anything — is something wrong?

If you are still inside the 7-day calibration window, Cue won't trigger by design. After calibration, you can preview a cue manually from Settings > Test a Cue, which confirms audio routing and Watch-to-iPhone communication are working.
