Effective June 28, 2026
Fire Lookouts does not collect, store, or transmit any personal information. There are no accounts, no sign-in, no analytics, no advertising, and no third-party tracking. The app works fully offline.
If you choose to grant location access, your location is used only on your device to show the nearest lookouts, sort them by distance, and — if you turn it on — automatically play a lookout's story as you arrive. Your location is never collected, stored on a server, transmitted, or shared. The app is fully usable with location turned off; those features simply hide.
The optional one-time unlock is processed entirely by Apple through the App Store. We do not receive or store your payment details. Restoring purchases uses your existing Apple account via Apple's StoreKit.
Rental and directions links open outside the app (for example Recreation.gov, other booking systems, or Apple Maps). Those services have their own privacy policies; we receive nothing back from them.
Lookout histories are original text. Photographs are public-domain (U.S. federal works) or Creative-Commons licensed, with credits shown in the app.
The app contains no objectionable content, collects no data, and is suitable for all ages.
