MacTap ("the App") is developed by Quyen Ngo. This privacy policy describes how the App handles your information.

Summary

MacTap does not collect, store, transmit, or share any personal data whatsoever.

Data Collection

MacTap collects no data. Specifically:

No personal information is collected
No usage analytics or telemetry is collected
No crash reports are sent to the developer
No advertising identifiers are used
No cookies or tracking technologies are used
No data is shared with third parties

Network Communication

MacTap communicates exclusively with your own Mac via SSH over your Tailscale network. All communication is:

Encrypted end-to-end via SSH over Tailscale's WireGuard-based mesh network
Direct between your iPhone/Apple Watch and your Mac — no intermediary servers
Initiated only by you when you tap a command

MacTap does not communicate with any servers operated by the developer or any third party. There is no backend, no cloud service, and no API.

Data Stored on Your Device

MacTap stores the following information locally on your device only:

Your Mac's Tailscale IP address
Your SSH username
Your SSH private key (stored in the app's sandboxed container)

This information never leaves your device except as part of the SSH connection to your own Mac. It is not backed up to iCloud and is not accessible to other apps.

Apple Watch

The Apple Watch companion app communicates with the iPhone app via Apple's WatchConnectivity framework. Commands are relayed from the Watch to the iPhone, which then executes them via SSH on your Mac. No data is stored on the Watch beyond the current session state.

Children's Privacy

MacTap does not collect any data from anyone, including children under 13.

Changes to This Policy

If this privacy policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this URL. Since MacTap collects no data, material changes are unlikely.
