Quintet ("the App") is developed by Quyen Ngo. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information.
On first launch, the App generates a random UUID and stores it in Apple's iCloud Key-Value Store. This UUID is used as an opaque, anonymous identifier that lets the App associate your credit balance with your Apple ID across devices. The UUID is not linked to your name, email, phone number, or any other personal information. Where it is used server-side, it is used only as an opaque key; it never leaves your device except as part of authenticated requests to our backend.
On first launch, the App sends a signed AppTransaction token (a JSON Web Signature issued by Apple) to our backend. This token confirms that the App was genuinely obtained through the App Store. It is used once, only to grant initial free credits, and contains no personal information.
Your remaining photo-credit balance is stored on our backend server (hosted on Railway) and keyed to your anonymous UUID. We also store timestamps associated with credit grants and redemptions, and a per-day usage counter used to enforce fair-use rate limits. We do not store your name, email address, IP address, device model, or location alongside this balance.
When you capture a photo of a landmark, the image is sent to our backend and forwarded to Anthropic's Claude API for landmark identification. The image is processed in memory to generate narration and is not retained by Quintet's servers after the response is returned. Photos are not saved to any Quintet-owned database or log.
If you grant location permission, an approximate location hint is sent with each capture to improve landmark identification accuracy. Location data is forwarded to Anthropic's Claude API for that single request and is not retained by Quintet's servers.
The App does not use the microphone. All narration is generated text-to-speech; the App only outputs audio.
When you purchase a credit pack, the transaction is handled entirely by Apple through the App Store. We receive a signed StoreKit transaction from Apple, which we verify and use to credit your balance. We do not collect or store your payment information.
Narration in Quintet is AI-generated using Anthropic's Claude API. Landmark identifications, historical details, and stories are produced by a large language model and may occasionally be inaccurate, incomplete, or out of date. Do not rely on Quintet's narration as an authoritative source for historical, cultural, or factual claims. Treat it as entertainment and as a starting point for your own exploration.

We do not retain raw photos, location data, narration transcripts, email addresses, names, IP addresses, or any other personal information. Captures are forwarded to Anthropic's API, processed in memory, and discarded as soon as the response is returned.
We do not sell, trade, or share your data with any third parties for advertising, marketing, or analytics. The only data transmitted outside our backend is the photo and optional location hint sent to Anthropic's Claude API for landmark identification, and the purchase transactions handled by Apple.
Quintet does not require you to create an account, sign in, or provide any personal information such as your name or email address.
Quintet does not use any third-party analytics, advertising, tracking, or crash-reporting services. We do not track your behaviour across apps or websites.
Quintet is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.
Because Quintet does not collect personal information, there is no personal data to access, correct, or delete. If you would like to delete your anonymous UUID and associated credit balance from our servers, email us at the address below and we will remove the record. Deleting the App from your device removes the local copy of your UUID.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated date.
