Privacy Policy

Overview

Wok Tonight ("the App") is developed by Quyen Ngo. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information.

Information We Collect

Anonymous User Identifier

On first launch, the App generates a random UUID and stores it in Apple's iCloud Key-Value Store. This UUID is used as an opaque, anonymous identifier that lets the App associate your credit balance with your Apple ID across devices. The UUID is not linked to your name, email, phone number, or any other personal information. Where it is used server-side, it is used only as an opaque key; it never leaves your device except as part of authenticated requests to our backend.

Install Attestation

On first launch, the App sends a signed AppTransaction token (a JSON Web Signature issued by Apple) to our backend. This token confirms that the App was genuinely obtained through the App Store. It is used once, only to grant initial free photo credits, and contains no personal information.

Credit Balance

Your remaining photo-credit balance is stored on our backend server (hosted on Railway) and keyed to your anonymous UUID. We also store timestamps associated with credit grants and redemptions, and a per-day usage counter used to enforce fair-use rate limits. We do not store your name, email address, IP address, device model, or location alongside this balance.

Camera and Photos

When you photograph your fridge or pantry, the image is compressed on your device, sent to our backend, and forwarded to Anthropic's Claude API for ingredient identification and recipe generation. The image is processed in memory to generate the recipe response and is not retained by Wok Tonight's servers after the response is returned. Photos are not saved to any Wok Tonight-owned database or log. The image is not used to train any AI model.

Location

Wok Tonight does not request, collect, or use your location.

Microphone

Wok Tonight does not use the microphone.

In-App Purchase Data

When you purchase a photo pack, the transaction is handled entirely by Apple through the App Store. We receive a signed StoreKit transaction from Apple, which we verify and use to credit your balance. We do not collect or store your payment information.

AI-Generated Content

Recipes and ingredient identifications in Wok Tonight are AI-generated using Anthropic's Claude API. Ingredient identifications, recipe instructions, and authenticity claims are produced by a large language model and may occasionally be inaccurate, incomplete, or out of date. Always exercise your own judgement about food safety, ingredient identity (especially for items you cannot positively identify yourself, or items with allergen risk), and cooking technique. Treat Wok Tonight's output as a starting point for your own cooking, not as definitive culinary advice.

How We Use Your Information

Data Retention

The only data retained by Wok Tonight's servers is:

We do not retain raw photos, recipe transcripts, email addresses, names, IP addresses, or any other personal information. Photos are forwarded to Anthropic's API, processed in memory, and discarded as soon as the response is returned.

Third-Party Services

Data Sharing

We do not sell, trade, or share your data with any third parties for advertising, marketing, or analytics. The only data transmitted outside our backend is the fridge photo sent to Anthropic's Claude API for recipe generation, and the purchase transactions handled by Apple.

No Account Required

Wok Tonight does not require you to create an account, sign in, or provide any personal information such as your name or email address.

No Analytics or Tracking

Wok Tonight does not use any third-party analytics, advertising, tracking, or crash-reporting services. We do not track your behaviour across apps or websites.

Children's Privacy

Wok Tonight is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.

Your Rights

Because Wok Tonight does not collect personal information, there is no personal data to access, correct, or delete. If you would like to delete your anonymous UUID and associated credit balance from our servers, email us at the address below and we will remove the record. Deleting the App from your device removes the local copy of your UUID.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated date.
