Frequently Asked Questions

How does Wok Tonight work?

Open your fridge or pantry, snap a photo, pick a cuisine (Vietnamese, Thai, or Chinese), and Wok Tonight returns up to three authentic recipes using only what's visible in the photo. The only ingredients the App assumes you have without seeing them are pantry basics: water, salt, white sugar, neutral cooking oil, white pepper, and plain rice.

What's the "no-shop guarantee"?

Wok Tonight is built so that every recipe uses only ingredients visible in your photo — no "and pick up some fresh basil on the way home." If the photo doesn't have enough for a particular cuisine, Wok Tonight will say so honestly and suggest a simpler dish you can make, rather than inventing missing ingredients.

What cuisines are supported?

Version 1 supports Vietnamese, Thai, and Chinese home-cooking recipes. Japanese and Korean are planned for v1.1 once the prompt is well tuned for the first three cuisines.

Why is the App so confident about Asian ingredients?

Most general-purpose photo-to-recipe apps misidentify Asian pantry items — daikon becomes "parsnip," gochujang becomes "tomato paste," lap cheong becomes "sausage." Wok Tonight is tuned specifically for Asian pantry literacy, with explicit prompt-level rules to distinguish fish sauce from soy sauce, Thai basil from sweet basil, galangal from ginger, and so on. It will not be perfect, but it should outperform any Western-generalist tool.

How do credits work?

Wok Tonight is free to download and comes with 3 free photo credits to get you started. Each fridge photo uses one credit. When you run out, you can buy additional photo packs through the App Store as in-app purchases. Credits do not expire and do not auto-renew.

How do I buy more credits?

Tap the credit count at the bottom of the home screen, or open Settings and tap "Buy Credits." Choose a pack (Starter / Traveller / Explorer) and complete the purchase through the App Store. Credits are added to your balance within a few seconds.

Can I get a refund?

Photo-pack purchases are processed by Apple. Refund requests should be submitted through Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com.

Why does Wok Tonight ask for camera or photo-library permission?

The whole product is photo-driven — Wok Tonight needs to see your fridge or pantry to suggest what to cook with what's in it. You can also pick an existing photo from your library if you'd rather not take a fresh one. Wok Tonight does not request your location, microphone, or any other permission.

Are the recipes always accurate?

Ingredient identifications and recipes are generated by an AI model (Anthropic's Claude) and may occasionally contain errors, misidentified ingredients, or unusual technique suggestions. Cross-check anything you're unsure about — especially if you have an allergy or dietary restriction. Treat Wok Tonight as a knowledgeable starting point rather than a definitive cookbook.

I have an allergy. Can I rely on the App?

No — please don't. Wok Tonight may misidentify an ingredient, miss a small jar in the background of a photo, or misclassify a cross-contaminated item. Always verify ingredients yourself before cooking if you have a food allergy, religious restriction, or medical dietary requirement. See our Terms of Use for the full disclaimer.

How do I delete my data?

Wok Tonight stores only an anonymous UUID and your credit balance on our server. Email us at the address below and we will delete the record. Removing the App from your device removes the local copy of your UUID.
